West Yorkshire Ventures was formed to support new business ideas in West Yorkshire; those which have the potential to grow rapidly into sustainable high-growth businesses and create jobs and wealth for the region. Since it's beginning in April 2003, over 1,000 new businesses have been assisted and those new ventures have created over 1,800 new jobs and raised £41 million in private sector funding.

Funded by Yorkshire Forward, West Yorkshire Ventures employs dedicated advisers to provide impartial advice to entrepreneurs and guide the business towards the relevant professionals who will help launch the new business. Professional services most often engaged are:

• Accountants to assist with the raising of finance
• The legal profession to advice on commercial intellectual property matters
• Marketing to help develop strategy and routes to market

In addition the team run a number of events and seminars to support the new business through the first year of trading as well as maintaining contact through the website and newsletter.

To be eligible the venture must be pre-trading, have a product or service with a national market ready for launch and have a realistic chance of turning over £1m per annum by the end of the third year of trading.
